What is Wordmaze?
Word
Maze
comprises four discs including the sampled vocabulary lists and the AcornReplay
system. It is only really suited to users with harddisc systems but provides
a powerful tool in the teaching of Single Word Recognition and Spelling
skills.
Featuring stunning Replay graphics, Word Maze is a powerful tool for helping pupils to master two key skills of literacy learning, single word-recognition and spelling. Developed from the original BBC Computer version Word Maze has the important addition of recorded speech for all the words to be learnt. Immediate reading response is encouraged before the pupil goes on to the next step, that of remembering and typing the word.
Word Maze is also an open-ended tool with possibilities for promoting word-reading and spelling skills right across the curriculum, from Level 1 to Level 10. Using a sound sampler, the teacher can quickly build up files of any words the pupil needs to learn: subject specific vocabulary - including foreign language - as well as structured programs for special needs teaching. It can be especially valuable for pupils to record words themselves, as own-voice stimulus has been shown to be highly effective as a learning technique.
The program is supplied with a bank of short-vowel words for immediate use, and the teacher may easily extend these with the aid of a sound sampler.
