What is Punctuate?
This package
brings an extra dimension to the tuition and practice of punctuation skills.
With three levels of presentation, users can progress from work on the
basic principles of punctuation, from full stops to colons and dashes.
Sentences are graded by length and complexity with three different formats used to present examples of diverse punctuation. They allow a degree choice, reflecting the fact that punctuation is, to some extent, a matter of personal style.
In the Tutor format a sentence is presented with all punctuation marks removed or replaced by markers. The pupil has to replace them with help available on the types of punctuation marks used in the sentence.
The Speed Test format is a simple game where all the punctuation marks float about the screen and the pupil must spot which one is missing from the displayed sentence and catch it in a race against time.
With the Quiz Master option a sentence is altered in some way and a question, with three possible answers, is asked about the alteration. The pupil must read the sentence and decide which answer is correct before they run out of time.
Punctuate also allows the user to create their own sentences for use with pupils or to produce sets of worksheets that pupils can complete at their desks or as homework.
